I love that movie. I'm still pursuing the rumours of the 30 minutes of unedited screamingbleedingbarbedwire hellscenes.

It's no secret that I've been giving Sizemore the skinny on some of the stuff we're doing with this campaign, but I want it on the record that I had no idea he was going to steal our thunder with this delectable asset.

This is due to go out on The New Frontiersman tomorrow - I thought it was the first time it would be in the public more. What's more I'm still not sure I'm buying Sizemore's account of where it came from. Unfortunately, one of the realities of dealing with him is never really being sure whether he's telling the truth or not.

It will probably still go out tomorrow, as planned. Maybe we'll need to look at what else we have in the armoury just to try and make sure our subscribers aren't being cheated of their Monday measure of back-story goodness.

Mike, thanks for the write-up. You say in conclusion that it's difficult not to start thinking of what might have been: at the risk of seeming like the fount of all links on the subject, I came across a quite sobering article by Justin Cartwright on Stauffenberg and his vision for Germany at http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/jan/10/valkrie-tom-cruise-hitler-plot.

Just watched the trailer.
And I have to say that I just like the fact that this times no the Germans were the ones to make this movie ( think they made serveral version as well). Because if they do it comes off like " Hello? Hello? Do you see? There were good people during this times. You might want be nicer to us after seeing this." It seems arrogant to me.

in 2009 - and I guess in 2009 discussions about 1968 ( 40th anniversary) and 1989 (20th) dominate the NS past.
Looking at TV program in Germany I think those two made the center of attention shift. A lot more movies were made about GDR recently.

The Oral history is shrinking because more and more people from that time are dead. That leaves historians with only their children left to talk to. And THEY either dont KNOW too much about their parents or tend to blurr the truth.

While the rich get richer and poor get poorer the young right movement - Neo Nazis- in Germany gains new members easily! ( NPD is still legal in Germany !!)
With the recession and at least 250.000 more unemployed Germans to expect chances for the right fascists are getting better and better.

So what I´m trying to say is, maybe- somehow- this movie has been released at a good point in time. Maybe it can raise awareness once more and make people and politicians pay closer attention.
Cause no doubt the orginial NSDAP got helped by the depression in 1930s.
A lot of parallels can be drawn, and we better try to avoid those developments...

I havnt seen the movie. But I´ve heard interviews with family members (of Stauffenberg). They were pleasantly surprised. I think that counts for something? idk

Interesting to read that you liked Downfall. When I was at high school whole schooes dragged their students to watch it. I always wandered about its receptions abroad.
